Check out a newer (2020) updated version of this post on my new blog: 9 Tips For An Adult Only Trip To Wizarding World
If you’ve read our bio you know that we don’t have kids. As I’ve mentioned, I’ve also wanted to go to Wizarding World of Harry Potter since it opened. Corey isn’t as big of a fan as I am but he’s actually been really awesome about visiting Harry Potter filming locations and even the Warner Bros Studio Tour.
It is 100% possible to have a fantastic adult only trip to Universal and specifically the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It’s interesting how many adults you will see with no kids in Wizarding World. I think it’s because most of us grew up reading the books and watching the Harry Potter films. It’s nostalgia and it’s amazing to see it come to life no matter what age you are! I can’t wait to go back.
Make sure to get park to park passes because Wizarding World is actually in two separate parks. Lucky for you muggles you can take the Hogwarts Express both ways to travel between parks.
I can’t imagine what it’s like for kids who get to visit Wizarding World of Harry Potter. BUT the first time I visited I was 28 years old and I was awestruck by the details. No matter your age you will FEEL like you are inside of the pages of one of J.K. Rowling’s books. There is so much to take in and don’t forget to pay attention to those small details.
Be a kid for a day (or 3) – Universal Orlando and Wizarding World will make you feel like a kid again. Some of us tear up when we walk into Diagon Alley and/or Hogsmeade. Some play it cool but either way it will 100% make you feel like a kid again and with the stresses of every day life we all need that!
Wizarding World has several options for pubs. In Diagon Alley visit The Fountain of Fair Fortune or The Hopping Pot to try exclusive Diagon Alley drinks like Fishy Green Ale or Wizards Brew. The Leaky Cauldron also offers a few of the same suds for your dining experience. In Hogsmeade visit the Hog’s Head where there is something for everyone. They offer Hogshead Brew, domestic and imported beers, as well as, mixed drinks. Try the Fire Whiskey! In Hogsmeade the Three Broomsticks also offers alcoholic beverages such as the Hog’s Head Brew and Dragon Scale.
We prefer the Leaky Cauldron but we’ve eaten at both. It’s just an experience that you have to have when visiting Wizarding World. We loved the full English Breakfast, the fish and chips, bangers and mash and of course the sticky toffee pudding.
You can certainly skip the rides and still have a fantastic time at Wizarding World. We chose to ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts but that was it. If you are going to ride anything at Wizarding World we highly recommend one of those. They also have the coolest waiting areas. Corey did say that the Forbidden Journey really messed with his equilibrium.
While there is something to be said for the awesomeness of the interactive wands they are more for kids than anyone else. They are really pricey and you honestly can’t do anything but display them outside of the park. For about half the price you can buy a regular wand for your bookshelf display (like I did!). Also all of the interactive wand areas tend to have lines of kids waiting to use them. So unless you really have you heart set on it, I would skip it.
The lines for Ollivander’s show are always insanely long and unless you feel like you absolutely can’t miss it, it’s not really worth the wait for adults. Of course, Mr. Ollivander usually chooses a kid from the crowd and lets the wand choose the wizard. If it’s an adult only trip then just go into the actual shop and check out all of the wands and other merchandise.
Honeydukes is THE place to go for sweets. It is a marvelous sweets shop where you can get the famed chocolate frog, Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and Fiizzing Whizbees. Don’t forget to try a cauldron cake, pumpkin pasty or butterbeer fudge.
And there you have it!
Wizarding World is for everyone and it was the highlight of our trip to Universal (for me). If you are interested in learning some of the secrets of Wizarding World of Harry Potter check back on Thursday!
